What You’ll Actually Be Doing Every Day
You’re not just sitting at a desk crunching numbers on a spreadsheet. You are running the strategy.
- Building Pay Structures: You’ll design international compensation plans that make sense for local markets. Investment bankers are expensive and highly sought after; you’ll create the incentive plans that get them through the door and keep them happy.
- Managing the Team: You will have a team of HR professionals looking to you for direction. You’ll manage their workloads, help them figure out their career paths, and keep the department moving forward.
- Sticking to the Rules: This is the heavy stuff. International pay laws change constantly. You’ll partner with risk and compliance teams to make sure your bonus structures don’t violate cross-border rules (like the strict remuneration laws in Europe or Asia) so the bank passes its audits with flying colors.
- Talking to the Bosses: You’ll act as the internal expert on pay. When a business head wants to change how bonuses work, you’ll be the one advising them on whether it’s a good idea, backed by hard data.
- Running the Cycles: You’ll oversee the regular, day-to-day grind of compensation annual reviews, salary grading adjustments, variable incentives, and sorting out discretionary bonus pools.
