LawnStarter is hiring a remote Staff product Engineer

They are the biggest on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services in the US, handling over $100 million in bookings across three brands (LawnStarter, Lawn Love, and Home Gnome).

The coolest part about this job? AI coding agents write most of the code. Instead of typing out syntax all day, your job is to guide the AI, design the core architecture, and make sure everything ships safely.

What You Will Do

  • Guide AI Coding Agents: Use tools like Claude Code and Cursor to write features. You’ll set up the prompts, tests, and safety guards so the AI builds high-quality code.
  • Design the Tech Plan: Figure out how features should be built, map out the data models, design integrations, and plan how to safely roll out updates.
  • Work with Product and Design: Sit down with the Product Manager and Designer to brainstorm features. You bring the technical logic; they bring the business goals.
  • Focus on Metrics, Not Lines of Code: You are judged by results. Success means moving real business numbers like improving sign-up rates or boosting user retention.
  • Hand-Code When Needed: When a feature touches a super sensitive part of the platform, you’ll jump in and write the code yourself to make sure it’s perfect.

The Tech Stack

You don’t need to be an expert in all of these, but you should be amazing at at least one stack and highly skilled with AI coding tools:

  • AI Tools: Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and MCP servers.
  • Backend: PHP / Laravel.
  • Frontend & Mobile: TypeScript, React, and React Native.
  • Data & Infrastructure: AWS, Redshift, dbt, Segment, Datadog, and GitHub Actions.

Who You Are

  • AI-Native: You already use AI coding tools every single day for production work. You know exactly when to let the AI run and when to take over manually.
  • An Experienced Leader: You’ve spent years making big technical choices, shipping hard features, and taking full responsibility for the outcome.
  • Result-Oriented: You care more about fixing customer problems and moving metrics than just checking off tasks on a Jira board.
  • Great at Documenting: You can make clean architectural choices, write them down clearly, get quick feedback from your peers, and move fast.

How to Apply

If you are a senior engineer who loves working with AI tools and wants to focus on big-picture product decisions, you can apply directly here:

Note: Because this role is all about AI-assisted engineering, make sure your application explicitly explains your current day-to-day workflow with tools like Cursor or Claude Code, including how you handle prompts and testing.
