Livingston International

As the largest customs broker in Canada and a major player in the U.S., we handle the complex "magic" that moves products from a ship or plane into customers' hands.

Shipping things across borders sounds simple until you run into a mountain of paperwork and customs regulations. That’s where Livingston comes in. As the largest customs broker in Canada and a major player in the U.S., we handle the complex “magic” that moves products from a ship or plane into customers’ hands.

We need an Import Specialist who can handle the pressure of air, ocean, and rail shipments. You’ll be the person responsible for ensuring everything is legal, labeled correctly, and moving on time.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

You won’t just be filling out forms; you’ll be managing the flow of international commerce:

  • The Gatekeeper: You’ll coordinate the release and entry processing for all types of shipments. Whether it’s coming in by sea, landing at an airport, or crossing the complex northern border by truck, you’re the one clearing the path.
  • Solving the Puzzle: Customs laws are complicated. You’ll use your knowledge of regulations and procedures to make sure every shipment stays on the right side of the law while avoiding expensive delays.
  • The Client’s Hero: When a client is worried about their shipment, you’re the professional voice on the other end of the line. You’ll provide updates, solve problems on the fly, and keep things moving smoothly.
  • Staying Sharp: This is a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. You’ll be multitasking across different systems (mostly Word and Excel) to ensure not a single detail is missed.

Who You Are

  • A Customs Pro: You already know your way around customs laws and industry practices. You don’t need a map to find your way through a regulatory manual.
  • A Detail Obsessive: In this job, a tiny mistake can cause a massive delay. You’re the type of person who double-checks everything because you know it matters.
  • A Great Communicator: You can explain a complex customs issue to a client in a way that makes sense, and you’re comfortable being assertive when you need to solve a problem with a carrier or a port.
  • A Master of Time: You thrive on deadlines. You know how to prioritize your morning so that by the afternoon, everything is exactly where it needs to be.

The Estimated Pay Scale

Since Livingston is a major North American player, they typically offer a competitive base plus a solid benefits package:

  • Base Salary (USD/CAD): $52,000 – $68,000 per year.

Lower end: Entry-level specialists or those with 1–2 years of experience.

Higher end: Senior specialists who have handled complex “Northern Border” or ocean/rail logistics for 5+ years.

  • Total Compensation: With overtime (which is common in logistics) and annual performance bonuses, many specialists clear $72,000+.

What Actually Decides Your Pay?

In the world of customs, your value usually comes down to three specific human factors:

  • The Border Expertise: If you have a deep understanding of the Northern Border (U.S./Canada) regulations specifically, you have more leverage. It’s a niche area that Livingston dominates, and they pay for that specific knowledge.
  • The Multi-Modal Multiplier: If you can jump between air, ocean, and rail without breaking a sweat, you’re worth more to the team than someone who only knows one lane.
  • Certification Status: Having your Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation often triggers an automatic bump in your base pay.

The Hidden Benefits at Livingston

Livingston is known for a very “corporate-stable” benefits package:

  • Full Health & Dental: Comprehensive coverage that starts shortly after hiring.
  • Retirement Matching: A 401(k) or RRSP matching program that helps you build a “future fund” while you work.
  • Remote Stipend: Since this is a Work-from-Home role, they often provide a small allowance or the necessary hardware (laptop, dual monitors) to get your home office up to professional standards.
  • Paid Time Off: Standard vacation plus “Personal Days” to help manage that high-speed logistics stress.

Why Join Livingston?

  • The Industry Leader: You’re joining the biggest name in Canadian customs brokerage. That means stability, great resources, and a massive network of experts to work with.
  • True Remote Work: We’ve built a system that lets you handle global trade from your home office, giving you the flexibility you need.
