Akamai is looking for a Remote Security Architect II to join their Security Operations Command Center (SOCC) team. You’ll be stepping onto the front lines to protect some of the world’s biggest brands, including major global banks and e-commerce giants, from sophisticated Layer 7 web application and API attacks. Instead of just checking compliance boxes, this role is highly active, data-driven, and hands-on with real-time mitigation.
Your Mission in the SOCC
As a Security Architect II, you aren’t just a passive observer. You are an advisor and a protector:
- Real-Time Attack Mitigation: When an enterprise customer comes under fire, you will devise and deploy active counter-strategies using Akamai’s massive edge platform to crush the attack with minimal impact on real users.
- Threat Hunting & Deep Analysis: You’ll dive deep into traffic patterns to dissect complex attacks targeting digital properties, web applications, and APIs (think massive DDoS walls, credential stuffing, and API scraping).
- Expert Consultation: You will act as a trusted advisor, breaking down advanced security analysis into clear, actionable advice for both corporate customers and your peer engineering teams.
The Tech Stack & Skills Needed
This isn’t a traditional network admin role; it sits at the intersection of cybersecurity, data analysis, and automation. Here is exactly what they are looking for:
The Security Fundamentals
- L7 & Web Risks: A rock-solid understanding of Layer 7 web application protection, the OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities, and how common web attacks exploit these gaps.
- Core Protocols: You must know the ins and outs of internet traffic, specifically HTTP and TCP/IP.
The Data & Coding Toolkit
- Python & SQL Mastery: You will need to write Python and query SQL effectively to extract, parse, and analyze massive troves of security scan data and JSON logs.
- Rapid Prototyping: Familiarity with tools like Jupyter Notebooks, Streamlit, or Dash to spin up quick, data-driven anomaly detection prototypes.
- Stats & Clustering: A solid grip on foundational statistics (mean, median, mode, correlation) and clustering algorithms, especially as they apply to spotting weird anomalies in web traffic.
- Dev Workflow: Experience using Git, GitHub, Jira, and Confluence to collaborate seamlessly with a fully remote engineering team.
Experience & Education Requirements
- Experience: At least 5+ years of dedicated experience in information security, production incident response, or a highly technical security operations environment.
- Education: A High School diploma, Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical industry experience.
Work Culture & Benefits
