Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is seeking a DevOps SRE at the Senior or Lead level to ensure the performance, resilience, and scalability of its production systems that power the electric grid across the central United States. The organization operates with a core ideology focused on doing the right thing, for the right reason, in the right way.
Role Levels & Compensation Breakdown
The role is segmented into two distinct seniority tiers, each with its own good-faith salary estimate:
- Senior DevOps SRE: The pay range is $87,950.00 – $112,190.00.
- Lead DevOps SRE: The pay range is $112,240.00 – $145,810.00.
Major Roles and Responsibilities
As a technical authority for SPP’s reliability and operational strategy, your duties will include:
- Infrastructure Design: Designing and leading the implementation of large-scale, highly available infrastructure solutions across multiple platforms.
- Incident Escalation: Serving as the primary technical escalation point for complex incidents, outages, and performance issues to ensure rapid resolution.
- SRE Standards & Mentorship: Establishing organizational SRE best practices, reducing operational toil, and mentoring both senior and junior SRE team members.
- Hands-On Execution: Developing test plans, writing and translating code to enhance application performance, planning deployment schedules, and handling software integrations.
What would give a chance for the job
To be successful in this selection process, you must have the following criteria:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, a related field, or equivalent practical work experience.
- Experience Thresholds:
Senior Level: A minimum of 6 years of experience building highly available systems and supporting SaaS cloud-based infrastructure.
Lead Level: A minimum of 8+ years of experience in the same domain.
- Technical Stack requirements:
Proven experience with Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, or similar Infrastructure-as-Code tooling.
Expert knowledge of Unix/Linux systems, including administration and troubleshooting.
Deploying to cloud technology, specifically AWS, and managing CI/CD pipelines.
Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
Visa Limitation: SPP cannot sponsor employment visas or student-work authorizations (including STEM OPT). Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Work Area & Remote Rules
- The position is full-time and hybrid, with on-site work based at SPP’s office in Little Rock, Arkansas.
- Fully remote work is available only to candidates applying at the senior level or above, provided they live outside a 50-mile radius of Central Arkansas.
- Travel: Minimal travel is required, ranging from 0% to 15%.
