Website GEVERNOVA
Our mission is embedded in our name. We retain our treasured legacy, “GE,” in our name as an enduring and hard-earned badge of quality and ingenuity. “Ver” / “verde” signal Earth’s verdant and lush ecosystems. “Nova,” from the Latin “novus,” nods to a new, innovative era of lower carbon energy that GE Vernova will help deliver.
GE Vernova is looking for a Senior Design Engineer who focuses mainly on Protection and Control Systems to lead its Grid Automation team in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. This is a high-level, remote-eligible role designed for a veteran engineer who can combine deep technical expertise in high-voltage substation automation with strong team leadership.
Because GE Vernova operates globally, the role requires collaborating across multiple time zones and occasionally handling communication outside standard working hours.
Major Roles and Responsibilities
In this position, your time will be split between hands-on engineering architecture and team management:
- Technical Leadership: You will oversee project engineering schedules, manage resource planning, and mentor junior engineers within the Grid Automation Centre of Excellence (COE). You’ll also serve as the main point of contact for internal leadership and external clients.
- Substation Design: You will lead the secondary system design (including Substation Automation Systems – SAS) from initial concept through detailed engineering, manufacturing, factory testing, and final on-site commissioning.
- Compliance & Implementation: Your scope includes managing regulatory design certifications, plant licensing, cyber security protocols, and safety hazard analysis. You will also collaborate with suppliers to review integration test plans, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and site acceptance tests (SAT).
Candidate Requirements
This senior track requires a highly specific engineering background:
- Education: A university degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Engineering.
- Deep Experience: A minimum of 10 to 12 years of hands-on experience specifically designing secondary systems for high-voltage substations within the transmission and distribution (T&D) or energy sectors.
- The Toolbox: Familiarity with enterprise software like SAP/ERP, Business Objects, and modern project dashboards.
- Operational Mindset: A strong commitment to LEAN principles, with expertise in root cause analysis (RCA), 5 WHYs, and problem-solving reports (PSRs).
- Travel: A willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
Professional Skills Needed
GE Vernova emphasizes strong leadership by influence rather than rigid hierarchy. Successful candidates must be able to manage granular technical details without losing sight of the broader project goals. Because you will be dealing with a highly diverse virtual team, the ability to communicate complex technical data into concise, actionable messages for different cultural backgrounds is vital.
