Clark Builders is seeking for a Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Reality Capture Technician to handle data collection, drone piloting, and point cloud management. This role supports 3D coordination, model analysis, and as-built verification for large-scale construction projects. It is a field-heavy position, it begins at the main office in Edmonton, Alberta, before transitioning directly to an active project site near Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
Major Roles and Responsibilities
Your time in this role will be split between active field data collection and digital data processing:
- Field Data Collection: You will perform aerial drone flights, 360-degree site photography, ground-based photography, and LiDAR/laser scanning. You will also use total stations and GNSS to verify site control and coordinates.
- Data Processing & Cleanup: You will clean, crop, section, and remove noise from massive point cloud datasets, turning raw field scans into organized, usable files.
- Model Integration & QA: You will overlay your reality capture data onto 3D design models and CAD drawings using platforms like DroneDeploy. From there, you will identify field-to-model discrepancies and flag structural or spatial issues for the project team.
- Equipment Maintenance: You are responsible for keeping field logs, notes, and ensuring all specialized scanning and flight equipment is calibrated and maintained.
Profile Needed
Clark Builders is looking for a technician who can balance field safety with advanced technical processing:
- Education: A degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Geomatics, Surveying, VDC, Construction Technology, or Engineering Technology.
- Aviation Credentials: You must be fully capable of conducting advanced drone operations and flight planning under Canadian regulations. Holding valid Transport Canada drone/flight credentials is highly preferred.
- The Software Stack: Practical experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)/Forma, Civil 3D, Autodesk Point Layout, or Trimble control tools.
- Project Background: Past experience working on large, highly complex industrial sites, mission-critical builds, or data centers is heavily valued. Experience with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is considered a major plus.
